Celebrate International Beer Day with INSPIRED Activities & Craft Beer
If you’ve never participated in International Beer Day, 2018 is the year to start. This global toast to great beer was founded in 2007, in Santa Cruz, California. Today, International Beer Day is a worldwide celebration spanning six continents, 80 countries, and 207 cities. On the first Friday of August, you can recognize this holiday in humble pubs, breweries, and backyards as well as in the finest hotels. For this year's celebration, Welk Resorts has already added you and your friends to our guest list.
International Beer Day celebrates delicious brews, toasts the men and women who brew and serve craft beers, and unites the world by trying diverse craft beers from all nations and cultures. This holiday is marked by tapping new drafts, curating rare beers, pairing beers with foods, and playing games that somehow involve beer. You can celebrate yourself by sampling new brews or buying an old or new friend a drink.

Popular Craft Beers in Branson
Homemade brews in the Live Music Capital of the World don't disappoint. When you use The Lodges at Timber Ridge by Welk Resorts Branson as your base of operations, there are a number of craft options to try, like specialty ales and stouts.
Barrel-Aged Abraxas by Perennial Artisan Ales
This imperial stout spends 12 months in Rittenhouse Rye barrels with vanilla beans, ancho chilies, cacao seeds, and cinnamon.
Float Trip Ale by Piney River BrewingCo.
This smooth, wheat-based blond ale won the gold in its category at the 2017 U.S. Open Beer Championship.
Belgian Style Golden Strong by Ozark Beer Co.
A traditional Belgian golden ale, this beer has notes of apple, pear, and light spice, and goes down especially well with seafood and spicy cuisine.
Anabasis by Side Project Brewing
A barley wine, Anabasis is brewed with American hops and malt but fermented with a strong English ale. The resulting flavor, which takes two years in bourbon barrels to achieve, has notes of fruit, toffee, caramel, and vanilla.
Popular Craft Beers in Palm Springs
You may associate Palm Springs with golf courses, classic steakhouses, and Beefeater martinis, but the local beers are nothing to sneeze at. Try all these local treats when you stay at your Palm Springs home away from home—Desert Oasis by Welk Resorts Palm Springs.
Koffi Porter by La Quinta Brewing Co.
This brew previously snagged the bronze at both the Los Angeles International Beer Competition and the World Beer Championship. The bourbon-barrel-aged variety won the gold at the 2016 World Beer Cup.
Extra Red Ale by Ritual Brewing Co.
Seven different malt varieties, roasted barley, rye, and a dose of hops give this red ale a complex flavor that many locals love.
Pugachev’s Cobra by Hangar 24 Craft Brewing
Three dark-roasted malts and maple syrup combine for an imperial stout that’s bursting with aroma and flavor. Look for oak, bourbon, chocolate, vanilla, licorice, and plum.
Black Widow by Coachella Valley Brewing Co.
From the family of stout beers, this draft was inspired by brewers’ attempts to win over the Russian czar in the 1800s. Black Widow has been aged in bourbon barrels and offers chocolate and burnt malt flavors, a high alcohol content, and a dry finish.
Popular Craft Beers in San Diego
There are more than 100 breweries and pubs in San Diego County. When you stay at Welk Resorts San Diego, you should come thirsty and sample some of these unique flavors.
Sculpin by Ballast Point Brewing Co.
The traditional sculpin is a world-class India pale ale with hints of peach, apricot, lemon, and mango. Other treasured, local staples include the Habanero and Grapefruit varieties.
Monster Tones by Modern Times Beer
Anything aged in bourbon barrels that once contained maple syrup has got to be good. This beer is conditioned in freshly roasted coffee beans, vanilla and toasted coconut. Look for the flavors and aromas of chocolate, tiramisu, and toasted marshmallows.
Hop Head Red by Green Flash Brewing Co.
The heavy dose of hops in this amber ale complements the tasty caramel base. The hops taste is not as strong as the aroma may lead you to believe, but you’ll still taste the signature bitterness.
Speedway Stout by AleSmith
This is another strong, wildly popular Russian imperial stout that is aged in top-quality bourbon barrels for hints of vanilla and oak with the same intense chocolatey, roasted malt flavor.
